Feel the History: The Weyerhof in Austria

If these walls could talk

Since 1130 farmers, lords, bishops and innkeepers have lived in the Weyerhof and the surrounding property. The farm is well protected on a massive rock face, and the Weyer ruins, a former protective watchtower, have towered over it for centuries. The surrounding buildings once served as farm rooms and as stables for the many animals.

Over the centuries, the estate was a mansion, farm, tavern and seat of the bishops of Chiemsee. The Weyerhof has been owned and operated by the Meilinger family since 1832. Its once baroque and princely interior was tragically destroyed in 1940. However, the original stone walls were preserved and the Weyerhof underwent another transformation.

In 1988, the Weyerhof was still serving as a dairy farm under Franz Meilinger Sr. when Elisabeth Meilinger Sr. reopened its doors as a hotel, youth hostel and country inn, restoring its reputation as a local gem for traditional Austrian cuisine and hospitality.

Every Era has its Face

In 2015, the next generation took over under Franz Meilinger Jr..  A major renovation, under the aesthetic direction of his sister Elisabeth, transformed the Weyerhof into a stylish boutique hotel and, thanks to the cuisine of Franz Meilinger Jr. and his kitchen partner Andreas Stotter, an award-winning restaurant.
Together with their spouses Lio Meilinger and Chris Matule and with the active support of their parents and employees, Franz and Elisabeth continue to develop the fascinating history of the Weyerhof.

The Weyerhof Family: That's Us

Coziness, warmth and a family atmosphere are extremely important to us.  Sociability and good conversations, meeting interesting people and hearing new stories - this is what gives us great pleasure.  It's why we love being hosts.

Surrounded by the walls in which our ancestors worked and lived, we try to make this special feature of the house tangible for our guests with contemporary ideas, our interests - and always with a view of the bigger picture.
It is very important to us to surround ourselves with genuine, honest products, materials and people that we like and value.

We want to offer our guests something 'smart', both in terms of quality and sustainability.
Whether it be in the furnishing of our rooms (made by carpenters and local craftsmen), by our producers and food suppliers, in the wine cellar, or our hotel cosmetics - BE [...] MY FRIEND from Salzburg - our high quality standards, without pretention, are recognizable everywhere.

The pleasure of appealing to all the senses with attention to detail, but above all creating beautiful, unforgettable moments and memories for our guests is our priority.

Homemade...

With our own hands

Much of the Weyerhof is done by ourselves. Franz Sr. is an all-round talent and Elisabeth Sr. taught us everything you need to know on the property, in the house and garden, or as a host.

We make pottery, grind, renovate, bake, boil, sew, paint, draw, shape, plan, garden, weld, lay, tear down, erect, plant, and dig.
Either everyone in their field, or together, we all like to "do". You can see the result everywhere on our property.
